Sankranti is a harvest festival tied to the sun's northward turn. Because it is marked differently across India, as Pongal, Lohri, Bihu and Uttarayan, what you send depends on where it is going.
Traditional choices
Sesame and jaggery sweets carry the meaning of the day. Til laddoos, chikki and gajak all keep well and post safely. For a household you know less well, a dry fruit box or mixed sweet hamper is a safer choice than anything regional.
Ordering ahead
The festival falls on 14 or 15 January. Delivery volumes climb through the preceding week, so book three or four days out to hold the date you want.
